VRLAN 2024 — swiift

After Echo VR shut down, VRLAN became a multi-game showcase — including the first public broadcast of Another Axiom's A2, now Orion Drift.

The shutdown of Echo VR forced us to change the direction of this event. It shattered the competitive VR space we knew and loved, and split the players — and therefore our attendees — across many more games.

This event became more of a showcase, with A2 at its centre: Another Axiom’s spiritual successor to Echo VR, which has since become Orion Drift. We worked with Another Axiom to provide the first public broadcast of their game in alpha, which did put a fair bit of pressure on me to get it right. The streams went out under the VRMEET 2024 banner, from The Lemon Grove at the University of Exeter.

I worked with software developer notblue to create bespoke software for the event, as I needed an overlay that worked in multiple games — A2, Breachers, Racket Club, Blaston and Onward.
